Is there a difference between a token and a coin?

The two terms are often confused in the crypto world. Their concepts are very much alike: both represent value, can be used for payments, and swap to other cryptos.

The difference is utility: whether the network is Proof of Stake or Proof of Work, you have to pay validators with the network native coin for processing transactions. You can use utility tokens to pay for services.
